Traditional Greek Tzatziki 🥒🇬🇷
Full of Mediterranean flavour! 💚✨

Who doesn't love homemade tzatziki? This simple Greek favourite is made with thick yoghurt, fresh cucumber, garlic, olive oil and a little dill. A delicious accompaniment to almost any Mediterranean meal!
🔹 Serves 4–6
🔶 Ingredients
🔹 300 g thick Greek yoghurt, plain (step 4)
🔹 1 medium cucumber (steps 1, 2)
🔹 ⅓–1 garlic clove, depending on your preference (step 3)
🔹 1–3 tbsp white wine vinegar, to taste (step 4)
🔹 ¼ bunch fresh dill, finely chopped, optional (step 5)
🔹 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (step 3)
🔹 A pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper (steps 4, 5)
🔶 Directions
Wash and peel the cucumber, if desired. Grate it using the coarse side of a grater.
Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze firmly to remove as much water as possible. This is the secret to thick, creamy tzatziki!
Crush the garlic using a mortar and pestle, gradually adding the olive oil until combined.
Place the yoghurt and drained cucumber in a mixing bowl. Add the garlic and olive oil mixture, vinegar and a little salt. Stir everything together.
Finely chop the fresh dill and add it to the mixture, along with freshly ground black pepper. Mix well.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavours to develop.
Here are some ideas that would pair well with this recipe, if you want to experiment:
Fresh herbs: Replace the dill with fresh mint or use a combination of both.
Extra garlic: Add more garlic if you prefer a stronger flavour.
Different yoghurt: Choose strained yoghurt with your preferred fat content, keeping in mind that thickness affects the final consistency.
💡 Healthy U Tip: Greek yoghurt provides protein and calcium, while fresh cucumber and herbs add flavour without needing complicated ingredients.
Enjoy with homemade chicken gyros, roasted vegetables, wholegrain pita bread or mushroom skewers!
Get creative and make your tzatziki 'amazing' for you!
Enjoy! 🍽️
